George Segal

  • Born Nov 26th 1924 - June 9th 2000
  • An American painter and sculptor.
  • Associated with the pop art movement.
  • He was born in new york after his jewish parents emigrated from eastern europe.
  • He studied at Stuyvesant Technical High School were he found his love for art, he had to stop during the war because he had to help at his parents farm.
  • He started his career as a painter.
  • BUt he i mostly known for his life size human casts, using traditional casting techniques, and kept his work stark white.
  • Minimal colour, minimal detail.
  • He placed his figures in urban environments, street corners, bus stops, dinners.
I like his work i like that it is done traditional and white, and in my opinion i like that it is white because it gives it a serious look to his figures and especially with his piece with the barbed wire i like that the minimalistic white and lack of detail with in his work.
