illustration week - Bjorn Rune Lie

Bjorn Rune Lie





  • Norwegian, Now lives in Bristol.
  • "With an imagination that knows no bounds"- www.nobrow.net 
  • "I dont really like chart music and consumer culture etc, but I'm not bitter and cynical, although the world is obviously going to the dogs" 
  • He seeks his inspiration from as many sources as he humanly can. 
  • Drawn towards wonkyness, imperfection, folk art, printed matter, old photographs of strange plants and weird contraptions.
  • Inspired by victorian greenhouses, power stations, botanical illustrations, photos from the russian revolution. 
  • Always doing different things to experiment, to create a element of surprise. 
  • His technique involves scalpels, sponge rollers and ground up oil pastels.  
  • Is a fan of Ben Newman, and Jon Mcnaught illustration work. 





I really like his work, I like the characters he has created with the animals, I also like that traditional look of the works that he does but i can help but be surprised by the artist in which he likes and fines inspiration from, especially Ben Newmans work as it is so far from any thing that Bjorn has ever done. But nether the less i do like his illustration and one thing that interested me mostly was the techniques that he uses.
